The All States Salutes Our Soldiers 2021 Winner

Rick McGrew is the 2021 winner and was nominated by his son because of his efforts serving in the U.S. Army 4th Infantry and in the Vietnam War in 1969 to 1970. McGrew was wounded during his time in Vietnam that has continued to stifle his mobility, so this upgrade has hopefully made his home life a little bit easier.

“The finished project was just super, more than what I expected. Actually, it was an answer to a prayer. I’ve needed a shower for such a long time,” McGrew said.

McGrew chose a beautiful acrylic marble design with advanced technology glass, a grab bar, and a seat so they can have a safe and relaxing experience. All States Home Improvement gets the job done right. McGrew and his family were extremely pleased with the installation process specifically because of the punctuality, clear communication, and thorough cleanup process by the All States team.

From all of us at All States Home Improvement, thank you for your service, Rick.

5 Reasons to Upgrade to a Walk-in Shower

5 Reasons to Upgrade to a Walk-in Shower

You can’t watch a home renovation show without seeing a walk-in shower feature. They’re modern and add a custom touch to a bathroom, so it’s no surprise that they’re at the top of the renovation list for many homeowners.

The reasons to upgrade your master bath with an elegant walk-in shower are endless, but we’ve rounded up our top five benefits of these luxurious modern home additions. Whether you’re looking for better accessibility in your master bath or a more modern aesthetic in a small guest bath, you can’t go wrong with a custom walk-in shower from All States Home Improvement. Read on to learn more!

  1. Better Accessibility

Bathing is often the most relaxing part of our days. However, it is often less than rejuvenating for those with mobility issues if they are forced to bathe in a shower/tub combo. While many homes are equipped with traditional shower/bath combos because of their versatility, the top of the tub is typically nearly two feet off the ground, making them problematic for people with limited mobility. Difficulty maneuvering in and out of the tub, combined with wet surfaces, can make bathing extremely dangerous for this segment of the population.

The most common update for an accessible bathroom is converting a shower/tub combo to a walk-in shower. These showers are built to be easy to walk or roll into, so the chances for tripping are minimal. Therefore, if you or someone in your home is looking for a more accessible bathroom, a walk-in shower is a good place to start. Read this blog about converting your bathroom for better accessibility for more information on how to improve your bathroom’s accessibility features.

  1. Resale Value

When placed in the right room, a walk-in shower will increase the value of your home. They make smaller bathrooms look bigger and leave room for more features in a small guest bath (see more about that in reason five!). Keep in mind, however, that you may want to keep at least one bathtub in one bathroom in your home to keep resale value high for buyers with children, who will likely want at least one bath for bathing their kiddos.

  1. Appearance

Modern, functional, and versatile are three words that perfectly describe walk-in showers. No matter your design aesthetic, the team at All States Home Improvement will design a beautiful shower to fit your space. Your consultant will share a wide variety of colors and designs to fit your style from traditional, to elegant to farmhouse.  And don’t forget the accessories!  Whether you’re looking for a spa-like rainfall showerhead or something handheld, shelving, benches or even a shaving ledge, we have the expert know-how and experience to guide your decisions and match your unique preferences.

  1. Easier to Clean & Durable

All States bath products are made of non-porous acrylic panels for the most durable and easy to maintain option on the market. No tile or grout to clean or maintain, no mold or mildew and our shower panels have an antimicrobial surface that stops the growth of bacteria. Cleaning your custom walk-in shower will be much quicker and easier. No tile, grout or porous porcelain surfaces that hold in grime and bacteria. Additionally, because our walk-in shower consists of flat surfaces, with reinforced corners – there are fewer nooks and crannies to catch buildup, slashing your cleaning time.

  1. Conserve Space

Walk-in showers are built to fit the room, so you don’t have to work with standard size templates. Therefore, you can add a shower to a room that couldn’t hold a shower/tub combo. Another option is to replace a combo unit with a smaller walk-in shower to create space for a nice vanity area in your bathroom!  Completing your new walk-in shower with a frameless shower door or an elegant glass wall will make the room appear larger than it is, adding value to your home.

Transform Your Bathroom Into An Oasis

Frequently Asked Questions: Bathroom

Whether you’re looking for better accessibility features for your bathroom or want to transform your master bath into an oasis, you’re likely to have a list of questions a mile long. You’ve come to the right place! Here we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions our customers ask us each day.

Are bathroom renovations a good investment?

An updated bathroom is an attractive selling point when reselling your home. Depending on the size of your project, you can expect to see a return of 50 percent to 100 percent or more for your investment in a bathroom remodel. Contributing factors include the housing market in your area as well as the upgrades you choose. Plus who can put a price on your safety with an accessible walk in shower or the satisfaction of spending time in a newly updated bathroom.

How can I improve the accessibility of my bathroom?

Bathrooms can be one of the most dangerous rooms in a home for those with limited mobility. The first step in improving the accessibility of your bathroom is to convert a shower tub combo to a walk-in shower that you can easily walk or roll into without having to raise your leg to step into. Additionally, adding a no-slip chair or bench and grab bars in the shower will put your mind at ease in the event you lose your balance or need to rest during bathing. The toilet is also a great place to add grab bars to improve accessibility.

What bathroom projects make the biggest impact?

One of the most impactful upgrades for a master bath is converting a standard bath and shower combo to a custom walk-in shower. It is not only more visually appealing, but custom touches will make it unique and enjoyable.

How much will a bathroom remodel cost?

The price of your project will vary greatly depending on what your objective is. Investing in a walk-in tub carries a different price tag than converting your shower and tub combo to a modern walk-in shower. The best way to answer this question is to contact us for a consultation. Our team will go over your options and offer solutions to fit your budget. We also offer financing options with payments starting at $98/month.

What to expect from the new bath consultation with All States?

The All States’ team will set up a time that is convenient for you and all decision makers to meet at your home.  You will want to allow for up to 90 minutes for the appointment to have time to look at options and get all your questions or concerns answered. Together you will look at the best selections for your new bath. There are many color and design choices for the shower walls from standard 1 color, to the look of stone, tile or even concrete!  In addition to selecting your shower wall design, you will be assisted in selecting the shower floor base color, fixtures as well as many add on options of shelving, grab bars, bench, shaving ledge and shower doors.

You should receive a quote within 24 hours and often at the end of the appointment.

If you decide to move forward on your new shower, your All States bath consultant will confirm your selections and give you a timeline for scheduling.  You will be notified along the way to finalize your exact installation date.

How can I prepare for a new bathroom remodel?

You will want to clear your bathroom for the installation team and remove any items from the floor, wall, and vanity. The main thing to remember when planning for a new bath installation, is that you will be down a bathroom during the remodel. So, if your home only has one toilet, you will need to find an alternative option for the duration of the job. Keep in mind, although our team will work as quickly as possible and clean up at end of each day; there will be some expected noise and mess with a bathroom remodel.

Convert Your Bathroom this Winter to Improve Accessibility

The holidays: it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Lights are aglow all around us, people are overflowing with joy, and everything has a little bit more sparkle than the preceding months. We spend the time reconnecting with family members we’ve lost touch with when life was too hectic the rest of the year. This holiday season, did you find yourself recognizing that your parents aren’t getting around quite as well as they did last year? Or maybe as you’re reading this you’re thinking that you’ve lost a bit of your agility these past several months.

Inevitably, we all will lose a bit of mobility as we age, and we are all looking to age with independence and dignity. More recently, retirees are choosing to forgo facilities equipped with accessible living spaces. Instead, the elderly are opting to “age in place.” This concept is defined as the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably, regardless of age, income, or ability level. While the “aging in place” trend is a much more desirable way to spend one’s later years in life, the family home is often not prepared for this stage in life. Though there are many rooms in a house that may need renovations for better accessibility, one crucial area to invest in is the bathroom.

How to Equip Your Bathroom For Aging In Place

According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 78,000 people are sent to hospitals each year due to injuries occurring from bathing or showering. In addition to the tub or shower, the toilet also poses a substantial risk for those less sprightly. As quoted in a New York Times article, Judy A. Stevens, an epidemiologist with the CDC, said, “Injuries getting on and off the toilet are quite high in people 65 and older. Having grab bars by the toilet would be helpful for people in their older years, and everyone would benefit from having grab bars both inside the tub or shower and where you get in and out.”

Because bathrooms pose the most potential risks for injury, renovating your bathroom will give you peace of mind that you, or your parents, are ready to age in place with grace. Read on to learn where to focus your efforts on your bathroom transformation.

Bathtub and Shower Conversions

Bathing should be a relaxing, rejuvenating experience. However, for the elderly, it can be fraught with anxiety due to the potential for injuries. Many homes are equipped with traditional shower/bath combos because of their versatility. However, because the top of the tub is typically nearly two feet off the ground, they are not ideal for people with limited mobility. Difficulty maneuvering in and out of the tub, combined with wet surfaces, makes it extremely dangerous.

The most common update for an accessible bathroom is converting a shower/tub combo to a walk-in shower. These showers are built to be easy to walk or roll into, so the chances for tripping are minimal. Though risks are reduced, it is essential to install grab bars in the shower as well in case of slipping on the wet floor. Often, it is easier for people with fatigue to sit while they bathe. Therefore, installing a no-slip chair or bench will be a welcome addition. Don’t forget to replace the existing showerhead with a removable, handheld showerhead that will reach the bench or chair.

Many people simply enjoy the luxury of a warm bath filled with essential oils and bubbles. If you find yourself cringing at the thought of being stuck with showers for the rest of your life, a walk-in tub might be a great compromise. Though they come with a higher price tag, they are well worth the investment for avid bubble bath enthusiasts.

Toilet Modifications

Most bathrooms have somewhat similar toilets, with only small differences in color or shape. However, for people facing difficulties getting in and out of chairs, a taller, more accessible toilet would be ideal. Weaker muscles make it challenging to lower oneself to sit or lift to stand, so installing grab bars around the toilet is a vital component of any bathroom conversion.

Other Areas to Consider for Accessibility

  • Doorway: you may need to widen it to allow for a wheelchair or walker to make it through with ease. If you think this may be the case at some point, it’s best to do it as part of the whole bathroom renovation rather than waiting for a second alteration.
  • Flooring: no-slip mats are the quickest and easiest way to make a bathroom safer. There are also several permanent no-slip flooring options if you are interested in making the investment.
  • Sink: unless you need to convert countertop heights for a wheelchair, the bathroom sink often is overlooked for accessibility. Though the sink likely doesn’t pose much risk, there are still ways to make it more user-friendly for people with arthritis. For example, switching traditional knobs out for lever handles are more comfortable to turn on and off for aching joints.

Function Can be Fashionable

We know, when you hear “accessible bathroom,” you instantly picture a sterile, unattractive space as you’ve seen in hospital rooms. We’re here to tell you that accessibility can be beautiful as well as functional. Our team will work with you to design comfortable, attractive spaces to keep you safe.

It’s best to make accessibility alterations before you need them, so your home is ready when you are. Life is full of unexpected events, so having a fully-accessible bathroom will put your mind at ease. Whether it’s an unforeseen surgery, an unfortunate accident, or merely the uncomfortable symptoms of aging, an updated bathroom will keep you safe at home regardless of physical limitations.
